Every effort is made to instruct our staff on the severity of the food allergies. However, there is always a risk of contamination. There is also the possibility that manufacturers of the commercial foods we use could change the formulation or substitute at any time, without notice. Clients concerned with food allergies need to be aware of this risk. Campus Cooks cannot guarantee the absence of cross contamination and, thus the complete and total safety of the individual.
Campus Cooks will mark items to the best of our knowledge that contain gluten, eggs, nuts and tree nuts, seafood, and dairy. We do not mark foods that contain soy because almost all of our prepared foods contain some form of soy.
It is Campus Cooks’ goal to provide you with the necessary information and assistance in order to manage your food allergies. Campus Cooks and its staff will make every reasonable effort to ensure the student’s health and safety. On our part, we review safe handling procedures with the staff and order specialty products free of allergy related ingredients.
Campus Cooks asks that you do your part through the following:
- Use common sense – think about what you are about to consume.
- Seek information about recipes/ingredients.
- Read food labels.
- Talk daily with the on-site Chef in order to review menu options.
- Direct any questions to the Chef on site when considering food choices.
- When in doubt, avoid the food altogether.
Note: All foods in the chapter are prepared in an institutional cooking environment that could involve accidental cross contamination with the foods you may be allergic to. To that end, if you must carry an EpiPen® or your allergic reaction causes possible hospitalization, immediate medical care, or long term effects, Campus Cooks reserves the right to refuse service. Campus Cooks and the chapter view the meal service for such a student as a liability risk to all parties.
